The Bluefin

645 Randolph Avenue, Cape Charles, Virginia 23310

"The BlueFin" is a charming beach cottage located in the historic district of Cape Charles on Virginia's Eastern Shore. This lovely home is only five blocks (0.6 mile) from one-half mile of public beach along the Chesapeake Bay. It is within easy walking distance of the beach, a park with a playground, bakeries, candy store, a shave ice shack, and many other cute shops and restaurants including a local distillery and a cidery. A beautiful front porch graces this historic home (circa 1894) complete with comfortable seating and a wooden porch swing, perfect for a peaceful, early morning coffee, an afternoon rest with a good book, or to catch a cool evening breeze. Inside, the new homeowners have updated the d├ęcor to create a bright, clean, and airy space while preserving the historical charm.

This light-filled 2-level home has 3 bedrooms and 2 full bathrooms upstairs. There are 2 queen beds with new bedding and 2 sets of full-over-full bunk beds (with an upper bed weight limit of 300 lb and a lower bed weight limit of 450 lb). The house sleeps up to 12. Entering the first floor, the foyer opens to the living room, the private study (perfect for remote working or virtual schooling), the dining room (seats 6-8), the kitchen and the laundry/mudroom that leads out to a big backyard. Outdoor space includes an open front porch, a large fenced in backyard with a brand new brick patio, gas grill, outdoor shower (hot & cold), firepit, and a custom made outdoor table that seats up to 20 people. The new owners have made sure the backyard area is a place you will want to be after spending the day at the beach! There is plenty of beach gear (beach chairs, umbrellas, boogie boards, a beach cart) and a cornhole set.

With the original hardwood floors and wood moldings, eclectically mixed with modern furniture, this home is a cozy retreat for your family and friends. Because it is a historic home, the staircase is narrow and steep and may not be desirable for guests who have mobility issues.

Park and leave your car and hop on a golf cart rental to see all that Cape Charles has to offer. There are plenty of activities to enjoy like summer concerts in the park, beachcombing, water sports, fishing, kayaking, biking, antiquing, cider, wine or bourbon tastings, and visiting our new local craft brewery. There is even a local public library and historical society and museum dedicated to our special town. There is so much to do or you can choose to do nothing at all and relax at this lovely home. That is the best part of staying here.

Good experience and a comfortable house. Good bedding, towels etc. Downstairs study was a comfortable semi private space to work or read. Kitchen is small but worked just fine. Good laundry set up. Stair is very steep and the master bathroom is a couple of steps down from the bedroom so this house would probably be a poor choice for anyone who has mobility issues.

We had a fabulous time in Cape Charles. I love the quaintness of Cape Charles. We enjoyed the restaurants, the Paris, and the distillery! The beach was awesome, especially for our two-year-old granddaughter And for the adults could actually use a float out in the water. The location of the blue fin was awesome we very much enjoyed the nice dining room table to have meals at and to play games. They master bedroom bathroom was a bit challenging with the steps. Also, the outside shower was fabulous! A half bath downstairs would’ve been a nice addition. Overall, a wonderful experience.

Cape Charles is our family go-to summer beach destination and we love it. Our "normal" house wasn't available so we booked The Bluefin and it was a pretty house that has clearly been lovingly restored.

The dining room table was great for game nights and the backyard is awesome. We enjoyed both immensely.

If you are someone who likes to cook though this is not the kitchen for you. It's small and rather clunky to use. Totally fine for our purposes but it could use a little love.

The other caveat are the steep steps to the upstairs and the odd platform the master bedroom toilet perches upon. Older houses have steep steps so if you have elderly folks (or a kid with physical challenges, like our son) with you that could prove tricky. One extra glass of wine and you could totally bite it getting off the toilet in the middle of the night, lol... (not that I would know ;) )

There is no half bath downstairs so that was a little irritating, but also a total first-world-problem.

All in all a pretty, clean and well cared for house with lots to offer. Comfy beds, lots of beach chairs and near Rayfields which was great.

On a side note, Cape Chuck like most places is having a hard time staffing its restaurants. We tried 3x to go to Kelly's and never could get in. We ordered LOTS of Dead Rise Pies at 5pm, had the teenagers pick them up and put them in the house for later when we were ready for supper. Just a heads up. Go early.

The house was beautifully decorated, clean, well-maintained, and stocked with everything you could need while visiting! We loved the location close to Mason Ave and a short distance from the beach. We would absolutely recommend this property to anyone visiting Cape Charles.

This house was perfectly accommodating for my birthday weekend! It has everything you need to enjoy your stay, and conveniently located in town. Plus the backyard is made for entertaining with a large table, lights hanging in the trees, a fire pit, and a corn hole set. All the details were well thought out. I could not have asked for a better house to spend my time in Cape Charles.

We traveled to CC for my parents' 60th birthdays. We couldn't have asked for a better trip. This sweet house allowed for mornings on the porch with coffee, evenings by the firepit and even cooking in when it rained. Mason Ave and the beach are within a mile so we were able to walk everywhere. We were a little disappointed because we'd hoped to grill out one night but the grill needed a fair amount of cleaning to be used. Otherwise, everything was in perfect condition. We would definitely return!
