This was our third time staying at The cabin and it was exactly what we needed. Peaceful, private, beautiful sunsets...perfect for us to share with our dog Gracie!
And, as always the stay at Chesapeake Properties were so helpful and accommodating. Can’t wait for our next visit!

No neighbors, wonderful beach walking, rustic cottage....exactly what we love year after year!! We will be back next year. Thank you for a great stay.

If you are looking to escape, this is the perfect place! My bride and I enjoyed the privacy. The description of the cabin is accurate, but everything is functional and exactly what you need.
The crabs were plentiful, and with a few pots you can have a fresh meal every day of the week. If looking to fish, make preparations to float your bait off the bottom, or from the surface--otherwise the crabs will clean your hooks in minutes.

The beach is very private, and the bugs weren't bad when we visited. During the week long visit we saw only two people walking from a neighboring house.

This is a wonderful place that is worth preserving and I sure hope that it is kept alive and well. Enjoy the property, respect the land, and eat some seafood my friends!

We knew from reading reviews posted by other visitors that this house was modest and poorly maintained. However, nothing can prepare you for a trip to the scary basement. Apparently, the house has had a roof put on in the recent past. However, the roofers pulled down all of the insulation and the ceilings in the vaulted main room. This clearly needs to be repaired. On the positive side, the front screened porch is a nice place to sit and relax and enjoy the open pine forest. The location is terrific with a short walk over the dunes to the beach. We enjoyed beachcombing, kayaking, and fishing. Quail Cove and Great Machipongo Clam Shack are good resources for fresh eats. Great breakfast at the Exmore Diner. Overall, in its current conditon, Savage Neck Getaway is suitable for a group of guys who want to fish and hang out, kind of like camping but with 4 walls. Working t.v. service or an internet connection would go a long way toward improving the visitor experience.

This was our 5th year and were saddened, but not surprised, at the deterioration of the home. The futons and recliners have never been laundered. The air conditioning units are severely clogged. The shower still has holes where the water just drains down into the walls. But we were shocked that the interior ceiling was all ripped out, no doubt when the roof was put on, and you could see daylight coming through. As were the large spiders (killed daily) and dozens of millipedes (creeping along baseboards), not to mention the a/c units worked nonstop and the house never felt comfortably cool. The heat came through and the window units could not keep up. Moldy window seals and filthy box fans are prominent, so take note of that if you have health concerns. Millipedes also thrive on wet conditions. Such a fabulous location and complete privacy to pay this money to sit around at night wondering what you are breathing, sitting on and/or ingesting in your sleep.

Very Rustic & private, NO WIFI Internet, NO Cell Service most of the time, NO working T.V. (even though there are two in the house) We rented because we were able to bring all three of our dogs who love to swim and the beach was private. They could join us any time of day unlike a lot of places, don't let dogs on the beach during the day hours. Was a little disappointed they could not explore the wooded area on property because there were so many cactus and sticker bushes! Had to trim the ones on trail to the beach:-( Sunsets were spectacular, could see from back porch and seaside. 10 minutes from grocery store and visited the small towns nearby especially Cape Charles. Hiked the nearby trails to the dunes, rode our bikes on the flat road, hardly any traffic. Would stay again.

The location is perfect! The house has everything you need. It was clean when we arrived. The beach is private. The beds were comfortable. For a family of four we had enough space for each of us to have privacy. Jen, the property manager was very helpful. We enjoyed the time we had there and look forward to going back soon!

My husband and I spent a long weekend at Savage Neck Getaway recently. We arrived at night and it's not easy to find in the dark! If you get to some fancy looking gates at a dead-end, you've gone too far. Once we spotted the duck-decoy at the end of the drive-way, we were in business! We found the cabin to be very well represented from VRBO. The reviews were helpful, too. The location is really wonderful. It's in amongst mostly loblolly pines, and sits back about 100 yds from the beach. It's a well marked path to the beach and it is wonderfully wild looking, and practically deserted. We did see a few people walking, but you'll maybe see one or two houses, set way back along this section. The cabin has a screened porch, it faces the sunset, I highly recommend you catch that! Water is hot, and on-demand. The cabin amenities were adequate, we weren't lacking anything. If you expect peaceful and simple, you won't be disappointed. We had to contact management about one issue, they were extremely responsive, and remedied the situation quickly. Cape Charles is fairly close, we had dinner at Kelly's one night and made our own meals the rest of the time. If you bring treats or cat food for the two outdoor kitty-cats, they will love you forever. Don't worry if you don't, they are well fed! You might see someone come by to feed them. I'm sure we'll go again. We really enjoyed our stay.

This was our second stay at Sand Castle and it was the perfect escape for us and our dog-child. It is nice to find a place on the bay that is so private and pet friendly.

We stayed in the Savage Neck Getaway for an extended weekend in late August of 2018. The house is exactly as the photo's depict. Nothing fancy, an upgrade from a hunting shack is an accurate description. If you enjoy camping, then this home is an upgrade. We stayed for the private beach and dog friendly amenities, not the home itself. We saw only two other people walking on the beach the entire weekend. Very isolated. We are more than content with electricity, running water, flushing toilets and somewhere dry to sleep at night, so Savage Neck Getaway was perfect for us. The air conditioning surprisingly worked great for as hot as Cape Charles is in August. We are also animal lovers and enjoyed interacting with the resident cats on the property. They are not feral cats. Just cats that live outdoors and enjoy their afternoon meal between 1 and 4 pm as we were instructed. The photo's provided are true to heart, keep your expectations to reality and enjoy your stay. We hope to come back another time!

We were very pleased with the privacy. We never rented a place with a private beach before. Was awesome. Kids loved it. Will definitely rent again.

We wanted to go to a warm place, away from crowds with a quiet beach. We found all of those thing at Savage Neck Getaway. The cabin was made with love, adequately furnished, clean and comfortable

The Rustic Getaway was exactly what we expected. There is nothing fancy about it, but it was comfortable for the whole family. You don't have to worry about the kids breaking the owner's fancy decorations, because there aren't any and that was just fine with us. The beds were comfortable. There were plenty of clean towels for showers. The washer and dryer were very convenient and easy to use and we used them a lot having sandy bathing suits and beach towels every day. The kitchen was perfectly cozy and well equipped. The gas grill could use replacing as it only has 2 temperatures; on and off. The futons are better used by just pulling the mattress on to the floor as one of them is not in very good condition for sleeping on. The screen porch was comfortable, but the screens could use some work. Bring a lot of bug spray! When you think you have packed enough, pack more!! The people before us left some trash down by the beach (cups and water bottles) which we took to the recycling center. I guess the cleaning crew doesn’t go down there to check to see if it’s clean. We met the cat lady who offered to just leave some cat food with us rather than bother us by coming and feeding the cats every day (not that she was a bother at all). The cats are sweet and were happy to see us each morning (we are cat people). Since the property is “pet friendly”, we expected it to smell like a wet dog but were very pleased that it didn’t. We did a lot of sweeping of the floors and it would be nice if there were some better cleaning equipment available. The floors get quite sandy no matter how much you try to keep the sand outside. The private beach is AMAZING!! We will be back as long as this property is for rent.

This is our fourth trip using this same cottage. There has been very little maintenance, if any, done to the interior or exterior of this property in those four years. It saddens me because the location and private beach is spectacular and I'd hate to see it so run down that it becomes either unsafe or unusable.

While the property management agent, Jen, was once again stellar on securing the rental again this year, this was the second year that something as simple, yet necessary, was less than adequate for a week and family of five.
Quiet spot, no television at the house no other people around you.
If you are looking for peace and quiet this is the place. My family and I had fun, short ride to Cape Charles and Kiptopeke.
If you want your own beach this is the place for you. There are a lot of deer ticks around so bring some skin so soft or something to repel them. They lurk in the woods on your walk to the beach. My dogs had the time of their lives.

the scenery is gorgeous, the beach private and easily accessible. The house itself is adequate: the 2nd bedroom has barely 10" of space between the bed and wall each side. The bathroom is not fancy but adequate, the water pressure not great but hot. The kitchen has just about all required except there are no baking dishes and only 1 baking sheet, also the oven is gas (with no instructions on seems as if very little general maintenance (dusting up high/fixing screens) has been lacking. Also, there are 3 semi-feral cats on the property, with someone from Eastville who comes daily to feed them, the person is not intrusive, but to have real privacy a visitor will most likely be asked to feed them. I personally do not care for cats, and there was some screaming at night while we where there. There is a crab pot but no instructions on use. Guests are asked to not cook fish/seafood inside the house, but the grill is not adequate, there is no side burner for a pot (crab boiling) and the grill is not functioning well (there is enough propane). In all not bad, but it could be so much more.

Once again we had a wonderful stay at Savage Neck Getaway. The house is perfect for our needs and wants. We look for the quieter side for vacations and this is absolutely wonderful with the private beach and wooded area. It is not far from Cape Charles if you wish to visit the Shanty or the Brown Dog or any of the other wonderful places along the main street. The property was very clean and ready for our stay. We hope to see you next year!!

My family enjoyed the quite seclusion yet nearby fun and restaurants on the Eastern Shore. A bit like indoor camping with your own beach and sunsets.Next time I will bring a bit more bug spray.

Property was simple and rustic as described, just what we were looking for. The secluded beach was so private that we didn't eve another person on our long morning beach combing walks or during our evenings watching the sun set. If you like simple cabins and quiet seclusion this is the place.

We had a wonderful stay and loved every minute of our vacation. Fishing, walking the beach, bald eagles, falcons, deer, dolphins - a perfect mix of beach, forest and wildlife. And, of course, the privacy!
Once we got to the cabin, we never left except to hang out on the beach and explore our surroundings. Loved the wood burning stove - very romantic. The cabin was clean and just perfect for us...the screened in porch was a favorite room.
The dogs had the time of their lives! They ran on the beach, dug holes in the sand, chased crabs & swam in the bay. Plenty of excitement and new smells to entertain them all day. And then they slept.
This was one of our favorite vacations and definitely the most relaxing. We will absolutely be back and would recommend this gem of a property to anyone that loves outdoors, beach, forest and wildlife.
Thank you for sharing your cabin with us. It was also a pleasure dealing with Jen - very pleasant and easy to work with.

Savage Neck Getaway was just what we needed!! It was secluded with a private beach that was absolutely wonderful. We did not see anyone while we were on the property. The kitchen was adequately supplied and had everything we needed. We had a wonderful time and would love to return!

What a beautiful, peaceful spot! Not many places you can walk for miles on the beach and not run into another soul in the middle of summer. Water was lovely, saw lots of rays, crabs and fish. Perfect kayaking and swimming, even for kids and dogs. The cabin was clean and comfortable. We loved our stay.

My boyfriend and I are the outdoorsy type and we really enjoyed our stay. The house was perfect for us and we loved the private beach. We spent 4 days on the beach just hanging out and fishing and only saw one person who had happened to go on a 45 minute walk from the state park up the road. We were enjoying the peace and quiet so much that we decided to extend our stay for an extra day.

We had a blast!!! The private beach was beyond epic!!! Definitely will be back once it's warmer!!! It was was an awesome find!!! We mainly grilled the entire time but I know it's close to restaurants. Has the cabin feel to it. We also brought our dog which made the experience even better. My only complaint would be the shower. The bathroom needs an update. Can't wait to return.

Neither the description nor the photos of this little gem do it justice. It is the perfect combination of a little cabin in the woods with a perfect, private sandy beach to yourself. My family and I were blown away by how much we loved it. We will absolutely stay again. The screen porch and grill were great perks. The only downside is that the bathroom really needs to be updated. I don't need or want fancy, but the shower unit itself is tiny and water sprays everywhere no matter what you do. The rest of the cabin, though, is perfect for a peaceful getaway.

Kind of scared when we drove up. The camper and wild cats threw us off. But walking around the cabin to the screen porch area...seeing the water, I knew we were at the right place.

Interior very clean and spacious. I didn't feel like we were on top of each other. Easy walk to the water. Kitchen was well stocked.

Shower is super tiny and in bad shape. A real turn off. We had five staying (no surprise we booked it that way) and only three bath towels. We used our extra beach towels, but this was inconvenient. Also had to purchase both paper towels and more toilet tissue. One and half rolls of tp proved inadequate. The lockbox was a booger, as you know.
